Erra Karam Chutney


Onion : 1, quartered
Tomato : 1 Quartered
Dry red chillis : 4
Garlic flakes : 2-3
Turmeric : 1 pinch
Salt : To taste
Oil: 2 tablespoons
Mustard seeds : 1/2 tablespoon
Urad dal : 1/2 tablespoon (Optional)
Chana dal : 1/2 tablespoon (Optional)
Cumin seeds : 1/4 tablespoon
Curry leaves : 1 twig
Coriander leaves : To garnish

1. Grind Onion, tomato, dry red chillis, turmeric, garlic flakes, and salt into a fine paste.
2. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add dals, cumin seeds, and curry leaves. Saute till dals turn brown.
3. Add the ground paste and cook on medium flame until the raw smell of onion and tomato are gone. Garnish with chopped coriander.

Optional : In costal areas of Andhra Pradesh, this chutney is prepared without tomato. You can try even that version, it also taste quite good.
