Gandhi Rasam

Surprised by the label “Recipe from hubby” and the title of the dish? Well, this was the answer my husband gave me when i asked what’s the name of this particular dish :). A simple, yet tasty recipe which can be done in less than 5 minutes.


Cooked rice : 2 cups
Lemon : 1 big; squeeze the juice
Mustard seeds : 1/4 teaspoon
Chana dal : 1/4 teaspoon
Urad dal : 1/4 teaspoon
Cumin seeds : 1/4 teaspoon
Peanuts : as per taste; roasted (Optional)
Salt : as per taste
Curry leaves : 1 twig
Chilli powder : as per taste
Oil : 1 tablespoon


1. Heat oil in a wok. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add roasted peanuts, curry leaves, cumin seeds, chana dal, urad dal and saute till dals turn brown.
2. Add squeezed lime juice, salt and chilli powder. Saute for a minute and remove from heat.
3. Add this mixture to the cooked rice.

This dish tastes exactly like lemon rice. Can add onions if you like them.
